After attending
Auckland’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival on Monday, I figured my first post
would be dedicated to my favourite band of the day, Haim.
Before the three
angelic sisters performed I was already high on life (and around three glasses
of cheap wine) because my one and only [dream] $oul $ister LORDE had won TWO
GRAMMYS!!
Haim (rhymes with
time for all you people in debate with your friends on how to actually
pronounce their name) hit the stage with Danielle and Este rocking leather jackets
and Baby Haim rocking a red and white letterman jacket
#AlreadyMakingAGoodImpression.
The crowd was crazy; everyone was pumped to see these three feisty ladies play for the first time in New Zealand just as they are peaking in their music career. Not a single body was standing still, as Este slapped da bass and flipped her lush locks, the crowd was feelin it as much as she was. To make the sisters even more loveable they said that everyone from NZ were babes (blush) and Este tweeted yesterday morning her love for Auckland and also her love for the delish Tim Tams- we all could down a pack of those at once, join the club Este.

However the moment that all the indie kids went wild was the moment they played
“The Wire” everyone went CRAZY. Majority of people knowing all the lyrics, (being
played pretty much every hour on NZ radio it was expected), hands were in the
air and girls were on the shoulders of their loved ones who were sacrificing
their own view and comfort <3
Did I mention the three hot ladies play instruments? Like a real band,
and they’re girls, that are sisters. All three rocked the guitar and Alana
(Baby Haim) even whipped out the maraca, then they all had a go on the drum
simultaneously while getting the audience involved by pointing drum sticks at
the crowd and yelling the concert friendly “HEY!” and boy did the crowd respond positively, screaming
“HEY!” right back.
Could these girls get any cooler?
I think not, with voices like children of sunshine and sass they were
undoubtedly one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen and I cannot wait for them
to come back and headline their own show.
1. Jay-Z is
(technically) their boss, so they are obviously the princesses to the king
himself.
2. Haim and Lorde hangout and tweet each other, if
Lorde loves them, it justifies their awesome music and obviously they have
great taste too if they love our girl. Also, the two did a joint performance of
Sheryl Crow’s ‘Strong Enough’ and it was a beautiful thing.
3. The fact that
they are sisters and they actually play instruments. Seriously I cannot let it
go, watching them play live was magnificent, they rocked it and made me v
jealous of the fact I can only play the flute/recorder.
4. Their
sass, and ‘tude. They dropped the F-bomb numerous times in their performance
and no one can make a swear word sound as cool as these girls. Este’s twitter
name is even ‘ESTE FUCKING HAIM’ and in her bio she writes ‘the only people
that make me laugh are @haimtheband and @babyhaim’ << straight to the
point. BEAUTIFUL.
5. THEY
ARE PLAYING AT COACHELLA 2014. Nuff said.
